Margaret Policastro is a nationally recognized expert in literacy and has spent the last 20 years creating balanced literacy classrooms and schools. Experienced as a classroom teacher, literacy specialist/coach and teacher educator, she has extensive teaching experience. Most recently, she has further developed the balanced literacy model to include the lens of formative assessment instruction. Margaret has published numerous articles and books on balanced literacy and formative assessment practices including Formative Assessment in the New Balanced Literacy Classroom, and Powerful Balanced Literacy: Instructional Strategies to Increase Students’ Reading and Writing Skills (Grades K-2), the extensive resource handbook she wrote specifically for this seminar.
