A Message from Your Seminar Leader

Dear Colleague:

The COVID pandemic has taught us that the landscape in education is ever evolving. As English language development, general education and subjectspecific content teachers alike, we have worked hard to reinvent ourselves. We have learned how to use technology tools to teach content, to teach academic language and to engage our students in academic discourse aligned to grade level standards.

As we work together to find new ways to more effectively integrate content and language in our classrooms, it is important that we co‑labor to better meet the learning needs of our Multilingual Learners (MLs), so that they can fully access content learning and master the academic language needed to stay actively engaged in rigorous classrooms every day. I know that we all want the same thing: to have our MLs attain the language and learning skills needed to become college and career ready and succeed in their lives. I have learned that co‑teaching can help us leverage our combined expertise to improve the academic achievement of our MLs. Additionally, this approach can enhance our instructional practices to better match the learning styles of students and, most importantly, provide MLs with a richer and more effective learning environment in their classrooms.

This seminar is designed to help you create or refine your own instructional practices around collaboration and co‑teaching to build or maintain a more positive and productive working partnership in your school. You will also learn more about the instructional models that you can employ for creative scheduling; better refine the roles with your co‑teacher; and implement effective instructional practices around the co‑teaching instructional cycles to effectively co‑plan, co‑teach, co‑assess and co‑reflect with your co‑teaching teacher and teams. You will also learn about resources and tools that you can use to effectively scaffold resources to make them accessible to MLs, at different proficiency levels. You will learn about classroom‑tested methods, activities and strategies that you can immediately bring back to your classroom the next day!

I invite you to join me for a full day of learning to help you make the most of your current co‑teaching instructional model with MLs so that everyone can reap the benefits of this highly effective research‑based model for students.

Sonja Bloetner, M.A.

P.S. I guarantee you will leave this seminar re-energized and well equipped with ready-to-use tools and resources that will make a tremendous difference for the Multilingual Learners in your classroom!
