A Message from Your Seminar Leader

Dear Colleague:

I once reluctantly attended a presentation on digital natives. Reluctant, because as a veteran teacher with little technology training back then, I had decided to let the digital train zip on past me. Luckily, a colleague dragged me along, and life has not been the same since! I realized that my students needed me to jump on board as fast as I could.

Since that time I have started a weekly blog, begun a Facebook group, contributed regularly to twitter feeds and provided webinars. Most importantly, I began to try different apps – saving the ones that worked easily and effectively and deleting the ones that did not. I learned quickly that “free” does not always mean “effective” and developed a list of quality indicators by which I could judge the value of an app.

My colleagues and I explored various ways to use iPads in differentiating instruction, including whole group, small group and 1-on-1 interventions. We found the best ways to use one iPad in a class of thirty students, as well as effective ways to use multiple devices. I’ve spent hours exploring the app store, asking educators from around the country about their favorites, following technology bloggers and reviewing and identifying the best of the best in iPad apps for elementary classrooms. At this seminar I would love to share with you my findings!
