A Message from Your Seminar Leader

Dear Colleague:

As an ELL teacher with 30 years of public-school experience, I know firsthand the challenges we face in empowering our students to learn the literacy and academic language skills that will ensure immediate and future success. In my decades-long journey teaching academic language to public school students and struggling for better results, I eventually happened upon a powerful multisensory strategy which allowed me to apply linguistic principles simply and practically. For more than a decade I have been developing this methodology, partnering with teachers, and presenting at annual state conferences. Recently I have been investing significant effort in developing ready-made and easy to use materials and expanding the approach into multiple content areas. This seminar is designed to give you the fruit of this work, a deeper understanding of the approach and a comprehensive understanding of the materials, how to use them, and how to customize them for your own lessons.

If you are like me, you feel strongly for that ELL student who sits before you with untapped intelligence. No matter what you try, nothing seems to translate this intelligence you can see with successful academic performance. You have watched them come and go, and worried over where they will end up. Certain new decoding-based strategies have been helpful, but little has shown up that effectively enables your student to harness the ideas contained in academic language and transfer them into their own skill set. You know in your heart that this student must learn how to infer from text and interpret math situations, but all the instructional time is absorbed in catching students up to rote skills before they can fly on their own.

This seminar provides an effective solution for this dilemma, enabling students to enter the realm of ideas confidently armed with the academic vocabulary and concepts that are beyond their independent English literacy skill levels and use them in engaging and interesting academic activities and discourse. It accesses their untapped multisensory learning skills and uses a focused approach to word meaning to enable immediate improved comprehension and foster longer term memory retention.

Please join me for a day packed with innovative and powerful ways to get your ELL students working at the potential we know they are capable of. I look forward to meeting you at the seminar and sharing our passion for teaching young English Learners!

Sincerely,
Jeffrey Linn

P.S. My entire emphasis will be on practical strategies you can immediately implement with your own ELL students!
