A Message from Your Seminar Leader

Dear Colleague:

Karen was a 16-year old student who had no hope for improving her skills. She was not unhappy, just resigned to the perception that she was not a good student. After working with Karen for 18 months, she went from reading 4th grade materials at 90 wpm with no confidence to confidently reading 8th grade materials at 120 wpm.

More significantly, however, teachers began to report improved performance from Karen in both quantity and quality in all subject areas. She was becoming a “good” student much to her own surprise.

So often, by the time a struggling reader reaches middle school or high school, s/he has completely given up hope to improve reading skills. Since reading occurs in nearly all subject areas on a regular and frequent basis, this discouragement affects all academic performance.

Students want to be and feel successful, but they continue to experience frustration with the one skill that pervades their entire schooling experience, reading. As a result, they often behave in ways that are counter-productive to academic success.

In order to reach these students, we must develop programs that empower them to see and feel their true abilities. They are intelligent, but have lost a means of discovering their intelligence because of their frustrated reading skills.

Join me for a rich experiential seminar in which you will learn ways to help students realize their intelligence through their reading skills.
