Karen Scott is an award-winning school librarian and is a frequent presenter at local, state, and national conferences. She is a current member of the Amelia Walden Award committee and the chairperson of YALSA's Top Ten Books for Teens. She is a past member of the 2020 Newbery Committee. She is an active member of the American Association of School Librarians and currently serves on AASL's 2023 National Conference Committee. She has previously served on YALSA's ALEX committee and AASL's Best Digital Tools Committee. Karen is a highly experienced school librarian, is considered an expert in the field by her peers and has been her school's Teacher of the Year.

She has worked extensively with the library media standards of the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards. She has reviewed for School Library Journal. She has also served on the United States for Best Books for Youth's committee for Outstanding Books for Teens, and on the selection committee for Wilson's Children's Catalog.
